Riverside State Park

The employees of Riverside help make it a great place to live, work, and recreate. Riverside State Park employs several Park Rangers, one Construction and Maintenance Specialist, one Clerk Typist, Senior, five park aides (seasonal), and one interpretive assistant. In addition, numerous volunteers help park staff try to accomplish the large and complex task of caring for 10,000 special acres adjacent to the city of Spokane.

Park aides help maintain the park's facilities and grounds, including cleaning restrooms, hauling garbage, brushing trails, painting, etc. Positions begin in spring and summer and go to the end of summer.

Riverside State Park Interpretive Assistant
VOLUNTEER

Position:  Parks Interpretive Assistant - Volunteer
Location:  Spokane House Interpretive Center, Riverside State Park; Nine Mile Falls, WA
Salary:  NA
Starting/Ending Dates:  Begins ASAP & Ends Indefinitely
Hours/Days:  Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm
Minimum Qualifications:  Must be 18 years old and willing to work with different ages and types of people.  Current NON-expired Driver’s License.
Essential Functions: Can sit, walk, reach, lift carry, prioritize, adapt quickly, and function independently.
Desirable Qualifications:  Experience in planning, leading, and evaluating natural, cultural, and recreational interpretive programs with youth and adults.   
Job Description:  Under the supervision of a Park Ranger, I assist in providing environmental, cultural, and recreational interpretation to visitors at the Spokane House Interpretive Center and other areas of Riverside State Park.  I provide information services to park visitors; conduct some maintenance of grounds, buildings, and trials; keep records; care for collections; create/maintain exhibits, programs, Assist with Junior Ranger & Environmental Education Programs, and special events.
Duties:
INTERPRETATION
Research, plan, deliver, and evaluate interpretive information/activities to include power point programs, guided walks & talks, exhibit creation, lesson planning, and brochure creation
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Offering guided tours and park orientations
EDUCATION
Teaching about natural, cultural, and recreational resources at Riverside State Park
CUSTODIAL AND MAINTENANCE WORK
Cleaning, grooming, and making safe all facilities, trails, and grounds
RETAIL SALES
Stock and sell items in the interpretive center “store”
MARKETING & SCHEDULING
Increase community awareness about learning opportunities within the park and schedule park visits; conduct community and group needs assessments
PERFORM OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED
