Lake Spokane! (some call it Long Lake)

Lake Spokane is a 25-mile reservoir, running between Nine Mile Falls Dam and Long Lake Dam to the west. The reservoir holds its elevation throughout the summer months, but is drawn down in January.

Boat Launches:

  • Riverside State Park: take the road leading northward from Highway 291 (Nine Mile Road) just south of the Little Spokane River Bridge, past a few houses to the boat launch. The launch has a dock, and a concrete ramp, with parking for dozens of vehicles and trailers. A vault restroom is located nearby. There is a fee of $5 to use the launch.

Be careful when using this launch, as there are hidden stumps and sandbars in the river. Follow the buoys to stay in the channel, but be aware that the buoys do not always stay where they belong, and the hazards are constantly changing. No wake is allowed between Nine Mile Dam and the confluence of the Little Spokane River.

  • Nine Mile Resort: take Hedin Road north from Charles Road. Hedin is about one mile west of the Nine Mile Bridge. Look for the resort sign about one mile north on Hedin. Follow the dirt road to the resort. Ample parking available. Boat launch fee is $6.

  • Long Lake Campground: Near the intersection road to Ford and Wellpinit on Highway 291, on the north shore of Lake Spokane, near the west end. Owned and managed by DNR. It has a delightful swimming beach, good boat launch, and 12 campsites.

  • Fisk Property: No boat access from the land right now, but a delighful place to visit by boat, or by a short hike from a very primitive parking lot. Located along South Bank Road, near the west end of the lake. Under future development by Washington State Parks.
